Desde que virou moda esse papo de “reuniões”, uma possível volta do The Smiths sempre é implorada pelos fãs, vislumbrada pelos jornalistas e tentada pelos maiores festivais do mundo.

O Coachella, por exemplo, tentou pelo menos nos últimos três anos uma volta do grupo. Nem mesmo caminhões de dinheiro seduziram Morrissey – o maior inglês vivo da atualidade – nem Johnny Marr, que até final de janeiro está proibido de dirigir automóveis e preparando um novo disco.

Mesmo assim, Smiths ainda é tendência. Foi lançado nesta semana ''Please Please Please: A Tribute To The Smiths'', álbum duplo em homenagem ao grupo de Manchester e que possui vinte músicas que marcaram a carreira do grupo, interpretadas só por gente indie. Indie do indie, no caso. Quem estampa a capa é Sandie Shaw, heroína da dupla Morrissey e Marr, que já cantou “Hand In Glove” com a banda.
